Fr. Kenneth Walker, FSSP was born in Upstate New York near Poughkeepsie, the middle of 11 children (6 boys and 5 girls). His family moved frequently when he was young. While his father was working construction in Wilmington, N.C, the family decided to build, with their own hands, a log cabin on some land they owned in nearby Tennessee. Their intention was to sell the home, but they changed their minds and moved in. While living there, they visited a used book store and found a book called The Incredible Catholic Mass. It described the Tridentine Mass, which they had never seen nor heard. The book was considered worthless and the storeowner gave it to them for free.

The family was intrigued. The more they learned about the Traditional Mass, the more they wanted it in their daily lives. On his own initiative, Fr. Walker began learning Latin. The family decided to sell their log cabin and move to rural Pennsylvania near Scranton where the Traditional Mass was offered. Fr. Walker eventually became an altar server at the FSSP Apostolate, and after attending Our Lady, Seat of Wisdom Academy in Ontario, entered the seminary.

He was ordained to the Sacred Priesthood in 2012, and currently served as Assistant Pastor of Mater Misericordiae Mission, the FSSP Apostolate in Phoenix.

Father Kenneth Walker, 28, was shot and killed in the rectory of Mater Misericordiae (Mother of Mercy) Mission, the small church he served near downtown Phoenix. Though badly beaten, Father Joseph Terra, 56, the senior pastor, administered the Last Rites to Walker.

EWTN has announced the debut of Extraordinary Faith, a television series showcasing the beauties of Sacred Tradition and the Tridentine Mass. Episode 1 was filmed at the historic Mission San Juan Capistrano in California, located about one hour south of Los Angeles.

Episode 1 includes some background information about the series, as well as an interview with George Sarah, a Hollywood composer who was asked to become president of Una Voce Los Angeles after he organized a number of special high-profile Tridentine Masses in historic churches. Joy Lanfranchi of Una Voce Orange County discusses the annual Lenten Pilgrimage from St. Michael’s [Norbertine] Abbey to the Mission, culminating, not surprisingly, with a Latin Mass.

DVD copies of this and every episode of Extraordinary Faith will be available for sale from EWTN’s Religious Catalog. Our contract with EWTN also permits us to post each episode on our web site, one month after it debuts on the network. Beginning Wednesday, May 14, 2014, Episode 1 will be available for viewing on www.extraordinaryfaith.tv. Please note that the site is not yet up, but will go live no later than Tuesday, April 8. At that time, you will be able to view a trailer introducing the series on the site.

EWTN beginning Monday, April 14, 2014 at 1:30 AM Pacific time. The episode will be re-run on Good Friday, April 18, 2014 at 11:00 PM Pacific time. The network wanted to run the episode during Holy Week because of the Lenten Pilgrimage segment. EWTN is considering future airings of Episode 1 at more convenient times of the day.

Over two years in the making, Extraordinary Faith was co-founded by two veteran promoters of traditional liturgy: Executive Producer, Writer, and Host Alex Begin, a long-time organizer of Latin Masses in the Archdiocese of Detroit, Michigan and the Diocese of London, Ontario, Canada; and London, England-based journalist Mary O’Regan, who served as Writer, Producer, and Co-Host on the first two episodes.

From August 4-10, 2013, Belmont Abbey College will host Veterum Sapientia, an intensive week-long ecclesiastical Latin program aimed largely at priests, religious, and seminarians. The program will offer a unique, guided exploration of the most important categories of writing that make up the Church’s Latin patrimony, with exercises ordered toward helping participants grow in their understanding of the mechanics of the language and internalize new vocabulary through active use. Staff will include head instructor Fr. Reginald Foster, who served as chief Vatican Latinist for nearly 40 years and is arguably the best Latinist in the world.
