St. Rose Philippine Duchesne elevated to personal parish, Kansas City, KS

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2020

The elevation of St. Rose Philippine Duchesne to the status of parish shows the confidence the archdiocese has in the community’s stability and future, said Father Fongemie. It is a recognition of the parish’s spiritual maturity and financial health.

Currently, the parish has more than 800 members. It is served by three Priestly Society of St. Peter priests. The society also serves the Latin Mass Community of St. John-Mary Vianney in Maple Hill, on the western side of the archdiocese.

FSSP to Launch New Youtube Channel August 31st

Tuesday, August 18th, 2020

As the world turns darker and Holy Mother Church faces increasing challenges, the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter stands in medio ecclesiae–in the midst of the Church–keeping the flame of tradition alive and offering that flame to an ailing world, that all people everywhere might know the light of the risen Christ.

We are creating a space in the international media to serve all mankind just as we have always served our parishioners: to help people go to heaven.

In this new channel, we will be bringing a Thomistic and traditional perspective to the issues of the day. What is at the root of our society’s devaluation of children? How does Catholic teaching align with the ideas of leading traditional and conservative thinkers such as Sir Roger Scruton or Dr. Jordan Peterson? How can young men find direction and be lifted from hopelessness to energetic action? How can busy homeschooling moms turn their ordinary actions into prayer?

Join Fr. Gerard Saguto, FSSP and Fr. Simon Harkins, FSSP as we begin the conversation on August 31st, featuring a fascinating interview with Abby Johnson on her pro-life work and her recent discovery of the beauty of the sacred liturgy.

Monday, February 10th, 2020

MABLETON–St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Atlanta has begun sending daily email messages with meditations on the liturgical year. The meditations were written by Dom Prosper Guéranger, the Benedictine abbot who re-founded the Solesmes monastery in France in 1833. Dom Guéranger wrote a 15-volume series that covers the whole liturgical year with many details of the history of the celebrations and explanations of the significance of many ceremonies.

FSSP brings stability to Providence, RI parish

Sunday, March 31st, 2019

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) —  Saint Mary’s Church on Broadway is going back in time in order to move forward.

When Jim Forte joined Saint Mary’s a decade ago, the pews were full and morale was high.

“We had a very good crowd of people we had a lot of people attending and it was very nice.”  But Forte says changes made in recent years caused more people to leave.  “Then it became a question of survival. We knew that down the road, not being able to sustain it financially, it would have closed.”

Desperate times called for drastic measures.

“In August of 2018, Bishop Tobin invited our order to come in and take over Saint Mary’s,” Father John Berg, St. Mary’s Pastor said.  “We do what’s called the traditional Latin mass, for those who are older would’ve known it in 1962.”

The entire mass, except for the homily, is celebrated in latin.

“I have to admit I was a bit skeptical because it was a bit different. and most people said oh if you say you’re going a step backwards, you’re going back in time,” Forte said.

It turns out, that’s exactly what the church needed to move forward.

Attendance numbers started increasing as people from all across New England were attracted to the traditional format.

“I would say the average travel time is about 45 minutes for a parishioner on a Sunday,” Father John Berg said.

“I’ve been attending traditional masses pretty frequently for the past 4 or so years but there’s nothing like this, I’ve been waiting for something like this to come along, something with the full kind of community life that isn’t offered anywhere near where I live,” Jack Marriott said.

FSSP Seeks Volunteers for Traditional Catholic School in Colombia

Wednesday, September 16th, 2015

Father Alfaro, FSSP, is looking for two volunteers that would be interested in teaching at the FSSP school in Anolaima Colombia. He would especially like Americans to volunteer. The role would officially be an English teacher but there are many other opportunities and needs for help at the FSSP school.
You would need to commit for 6 months starting in mid January 2016 and leave in late June/early July 2016. You would be provided room and board. You would need about $300 US for personal expenses for the 6 months and you would have to provide your own airfare to Bogota. You would need to know a little Spanish — some basics so you can build on it and learn the language while there. Ages desired are about 23 or up. Living conditions are very basic and this will be a challenging and sometimes difficult assignment. If you would like to volunteer or if you know a Catholic in the USA or Canada who would be interested, you can contact me and I”ll give them the details and if interested I’ll put  them in contact with the FSSP in South America. God Bless,
